What is Physiotherapy Led Pilates?
Physiotherapy led Pilates is a complete body workout that aims to improve core stability, flexibility & postural awareness. It is a mind-body form of exercise that places great emphasis on initiating movement from a central core of stability. Physiotherapists are highly trained in assessing posture, movement dysfunctions and muscle imbalances. Their in depth knowledge of anatomy and injury enables them to teach you appropriate exercises to assist in rehabilitation.
Core Stability
Conscious activation of core muscles enables movement from a stable base during exercise
Postural Awareness
Exercises improve alignment therefore posture improves both in and out of the class
Flexibility
Overly tight muscles are lengthened restoring balance once again to the body.
Relaxation
Concentrating on the movement means the mind let’s go of distraction and we become more calm and peaceful.
Breathing
Movements are in rhythm with the breath, using physiological methods to enhance relaxation and control.
Body Awareness
Visualisations empower participants to develop and understand their own body.
“The Classes”
Before joining a class you initially attend an introductory class in order to learn the basics. This also enables your physiotherapist to assess your core and any injuries. Your goals and intentions are taken into consideration and following this you are then offered a place in a class appropriate to your needs. Beginners and intermediate level classes are separate from advanced classes and we have specific classes for over 50’s. During the class itself you are closely supervised by your physiotherapist in order to ensure that you are using the correct muscles and feeling comfortable and free from any pain or discomfort. Exercises are adjusted and modifications offered according to your body’s needs. Classes are limited in size in order to allow this personal approach. Clients normally complete a 6 week beginners course, progressing as their needs and wishes allow to intermediate and advanced if so desired. We use a range of equipment including foam rollers, weighted balls, therabands and magic circles to keep the classes interesting, vibrant and fun!
